Come Get Your Swirl On !

Javelina Leap is a 10 1/4 acre estate nestled 3,800 ft. above sea level. The vineyards are located on the steep slopes of an ex-tinct volcanic mountain, overlooking the lush greenbelt of Oak Creek.

There are an abundance of native plants intermingling with our estate zinfandel vines. These plants are a natural sustainable resource that benefits our unique teroir. As these plants decompose with the help of certain microbes and fungi in the soil, they deliver nitrogen. Nitrogen levels are extremely important for grapes. When the grapes are harvested a test is taken to measure the nitrogen levels. Nitrogen directly affects the fermentation. When you use extreme weed control it can lower the root colonization and affect the natural populations of soil microbes and fungi. These soil microbes and fungi play key roles in making soil nutrients available to the vines. This, in turn, affects the quality of fruit and improves it over the years.

Rod & Cynthia Snapp

Rod Snapp is Javelina Leap’s founder, co-owner and director of winemaking and vineyard growing. Rod is one of the leaders and original pioneers in the northern Arizona wine industry. A resident of Arizona for over 34 years, Rod is an entrepreneur whose roots go deep into the community. His experience and passion for the culinary arts go hand in hand with wine and this evolved into a dream of establishing his own vineyard and winery. Eventually this dream led Rod to a 6 year enology & viticulture apprenticeship and the purchase of 10 acres of sloping volcanic hillsides.

Owner & Winemaker Cynthia Snapp has 25+ years in the Sedona/Verde Valley. Cynthia credits her European roots for instilling a deep sense of sustainability and love for the land. Working side by side with Rod since the conception of Javelina Leap, she shares Rod’s palate, passion and vision. For the past 10 years, Cynthia has been involved in planting, pruning, harvesting, bottling and making wine in the Verde Valley. She is among only a handful of female winemakers who are active in the nearly 50 wineries in Arizona.

“I’ve always believed in doing what you love and loving what you do. It’s my passion that drives me forward. I learned to make wine just like a chef learns to cook... by doing it! I don’t use the same written formula each harvest. Nothing is set in stone. Decisions are based strictly on the fruit itself and each year is different.”
